What is the police procedure in catching the thief in a stolen car, regarding chases?

that varies from city to city and so on. some places have a maximum speed that they will pursue, some Will only go on interstates, some may not chase during certain hours. all of these things are for the safety of the community at large. many innocent people are hurt or killed each year by high speed chases, they are just trying to change that the best they can

This varies from department to department. THey normally willnot put citizens in risk chasing at high speeds, bt they continue to look for the criminal!
